Faith Formation

     This ministry focuses on developing and enriching faith for all parish age groups: from pre-school, elementary and high school years through adulthood. Faith enrichment programs utilize creative and dynamic approaches to teaching Catholic faith, with special emphasis given to making faith relevant to the needs of people today. Please contact us if you are new to the community, for any information, or to register for a program.
 

Pre-School and Elementary Religious Education
(Faith Formation on Sunday )

Pre-school: 3 and 4 year old children
Elementary Grades: Kindergarten through 5th grade. Classes begin in September
Registration: Will be announced in the parish bulletin and on the website calendar
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Preparation offered in Grade 2.     
Schedule: 10:00AM on Sunday mornings after the 9:00AM Mass.  Classes meet from September through May.

Secondary Religious Education
(Faith Formation on Monday Evening)

Secondary Grades: 6th through 11th grade. Age-sensitive and creative curriculum emphasizes the lectionary of weekly readings and is Scripture-based. Confirmation preparation and instruction occurs in Grade 11.
Registration: 
Schedule: Monday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 PM
School closing information: Monday night classes are cancelled if Chatham Schools are closed due to inclement weather.

Program Costs


$30 per student, with a maximum of $60 per family.  No child will be turned away due to financial concerns.
 

The Center for Faith Enrichment
Of the Interfaith Community of Northern Columbia County (CFE)

 

Mission:
The CFE offers programs and experiences for all adults, young adults and families seeking ways to live as people of faith in a demanding and ever-changing world. Sponsored by St. James Church, with participation by our sister churches, St John the Baptist, St. Joseph’s, the Chatham Synagogue, the Quakers and local Protestant congregations, CFE is committed to broad spiritual inquiry through engagement of diverse perspectives, cultures and expressions. CFE approaches the quest for grace and mystery in our lives through constructive conversation within and between participating congregations and engagement with the wider community.

Programs and Events

Faith enrichment is focused on sharing through discussion groups, book clubs, film and lectures on Scripture, Science and Religion, Social Justice, Comparative Religion, Fine and Performing Arts and Liturgy.

Programs sponsored by the Chatham Synagogue, the Quakers and Protestant congregations are noted in our church bulletin and website.

Book Groups

Book groups are open and generally meet weekly.
Daytime Book Group meets at St James on Tuesday mornings. 
Evening Book Group meets at St James on Monday evenings. 

Group meetings will be noted in teh bulletin and in the St James calendar. For further information please contact the Parish office.

R.C.I.A. - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

The RCIA prepares adults to be received into the church with sessions in which participants learn about and practice the Catholic Faith. Meets weekly from October through May.  For additional information about R.C.I.A, click here or contact ministries@stjameschatham.org or (518) 392-4991.

Baptismal Preparation
